1998 Mercedes E320 4-MATIC Sedan
I am preparing for a move and am trying to lessen my load.
Up for sale is a 1998 Mercedes E320 4-MATIC (all-wheel drive) sedan.
One year ago, I was transferred to a very rural setting in south-central Wisconsin. The winter was quickly approaching, and I needed an all-wheel drive car to get me around the horrible country roads as I do a lot of driving. I purchased the car in October, 2009 with about 103k on the odometer. Throughout the winter, I put about 11k trouble-free miles on the car. It handles beautifully on the icy, snowy roads, and was a real treat to drive throughout the winter.
The reason I'm selling the car so quickly is because I've been transferred yet again - this time, to a more urban area with much better roads and less driving. I don't need this car anymore.
I don't have a lot of maintenance records on the car, unfortunately. The work that I've had done the past year I have receipts for, but it has mainly been oil changes and routine maintenance.
Mechanically, the car is in very good shape. The engine runs very well with no hesitations. The transmission shifts as it should with no flaring and no hesitations between gears. The odometer is about 200 miles shy of 114k.
All of the electronics work well - to the best of my knowledge, there is nothing that is non-operational. The passenger power seat is a bit persnickety sometimes, but if you fiddle enough with the switch, it works. All of the power windows work. I've not used the air conditioning that much, but when on, it works great.
The car is going to need some front end work done in order to improve the ride quality. I began this work in the spring with a new set of Bridgestone tires. It will need front shocks for sure.
Overall, the body of the car is in good shape, but it's beginning to show its age. You'll notice in the pictures that there are several areas where some pretty significant touch-ups have been done. The worst areas include by the passenger side headlight, the rear wheel well on the passenger side, and by the trunk lock. These are all "usual" places for rust to form on the W210 cars. I've done the best I could to remove the rust and to touch those areas up with OEM touch-up paint. From a distance, they're really not noticeable, only from close up. I've done my best to highlight these areas in the pictures.
The interior is in very good shape. Springs in the seats are still good. There are no visible cracks in the dash. Overall, very nice.
For those who look closely at the picture with the odometer reading, you'll notice the "double square" indicating that a warning is present. The warning is low windshield washer fluid. I just wanted to point that out so you wouldn't think there was something more serious being displayed.
It is located in the village of Hollandale, Wis. Hollandale is about 30-35min. from the west side of the city of Madison. It's about 15min. from Mt. Horeb and Dodgeville. Upon successful sale, you are welcome to take the car and the title with you. I have a small lien on the car to tend to after the sale, and within one week, I will forward the lien release document to you so that you can title the car in your name.
